Normal Fire Department Awarded Grant for Firefighter Wellness Program

NORMAL  –  The Normal Fire Department has been awarded a grant to help fund an annual firefighter physical fitness and wellness program for the members of the department.  

“It’s an unfortunate statistic that more firefighters are dying from medical emergencies such as overexertion, physical stress, and cardiac problems than are dying as a result of the smoke or the fire itself,” said Fire Chief Mick Humer.

No Working Smoke Alarms in Fatal Fire on Hunt Drive

NORMAL – A fire on August 6th, which lead to the death of a 68-year-old Normal woman, originated in the kitchen, and was likely caused by open flame ignition of combustible materials in the area of the stove top.
 

One Dead Following Overnight Fire on Hunt Drive

NORMAL – The Normal Fire Department and Kathy Davis, the McLean County Coroner are releasing the following information in regards to the incident that occurred at 1538 Hunt Drive in Normal, IL early this morning.
 
Normal Fire Department responded to 1538 Hunt Drive, a four unit, two story condominium building, just after midnight for the report of a possible structure fire. Neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the building and called 911.
 

Normal Firefighters Support Cancer Battle

Today, 1st shift firefighters shaved their heads to show support for Peoria Firefighter, Nick Riordan, as he battles stage 4 metastatic neuroendocrine carcinoma, an aggressive cancer. Nick's brother, Nathan Riordan, is a firefighter paramedic with Normal Fire and organized the impromptu barber shop at #3 Fire Station this morning.

Nick, we wish you the best in your treatments and your battle. You are not fighting this alone!

New Normal Fire Department HQ Taking Shape

NFD new HQ

Normal Fire Department's new Headquarters Station at 606 S Main is really taking shape. 

With plans to be open in the fall, this station will serve the central core of of the Town of Normal including the campus of Illinois State University.  It will also house the new training facility, the department administration and the Prevention Division.
