Today, Normal Firefighters and Bloomington Firefighters (Local 49) welcome home Army Sgt. Josh Rodgers. He and another soldier were killed during a military operation in Afghanistan on April 27. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time of loss and grief. May he, and all those that have gone before him in service to our country, rest in peace.
NORMAL – With temperatures in the upper 90’s and heat indices pushing 100 degrees, firefighters battled through the heat to bring a basement fire under control on Blair Drive this afternoon.
NORMAL – Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack to stop an apartment fire on the third floor of an apartment building from spreading into the roof structure.
Normal Fire Department responded to the report of an apartment filling with smoke at 808 S. Linden Street at 5:53pm. The caller had just returned home and opened the front door and found heavy smoke inside the apartment and left to call 911.
Today Members of the Normal Firefighters Union completed the annual shopping for families through the Baby Fold organization. The shopping is 1 of many things provided by the firefighters for community service that goes beyond just coming to work. Deliveries will be made later this month to help out Santa. Thank you to all the firefighters for your support through all the holiday events planned for local families. Below are a few pictures of the gifts bought.
