NORMAL – Firefighters battled freezing temperatures and icy conditions on the fire ground after a blaze broke out at a residence on East Vernon Avenue late Monday Night.

Normal Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire at 1327 E. Vernon Avenue at 11:14pm. The first arriving engine company reported fire from the roof and called for a greater alarm which calls back off-duty Normal firefighters and requests a Rapid Intervention Team from Bloomington Fire Department.
